about me, idris walters, and my pastel art
I now live and work on the north coast of Norfolk having pursued a lengthy professional background in architecture, architectural illustration, journalism, and graphic design. I work exclusively in pastel, having developed a series of idiosyncratic techniques in this particularly taxing medium.
It is often said that visual art, not unlike music, can express and communicate ideas which are not readily explained using words alone. Since this notion might appear to obviate the purpose of any formal ‘Artist’s Statement’ I have restricted any unnecessary explanation to a minimum .
My work falls into four general themes which, for convenience, I have called
-
the naked eye, concerns itself with the largely unreconstructed rendering of landscape, still life and so on
-
dilapitecture , explores the aesthetics of decay, neglect, the pathos of time passing and surface entropy
-
the mystic garden, is an imaginary landscape, free-form flora in a mysterious dreamscape context
-
property portraiture, are mostly buildings or homes and is usually commissioned work
Along with original artwork, I can supply fine-art prints and greeting cards. Please have a look in the shop section.
